Jealous over Internet, man kills family, self
Dispatcher's tape of suicide shooting made public Friday
The Associated Press
ANDERSON, Ind. A man killed his wife and two children because he thought his wife was having an affair via the Internet, then shot himself to death while on the phone with a 911 dispatcher.
My boy's dead. My wife is dead. My daughter's dead. And now I'm going to be dead on account of this (expletive) computer, Terry M. Jones, 53, said on the 911 tape. The dispatcher heard a gunshot, followed by moaning.
Madison County Sheriff Terry Richwine said it is unclear whether Mr. Jones' 34-year-old wife, Jennifer, really was having an affair over the Internet.
Family members listened to the tape Friday, but did not comment.
Sheriff Richwine said Mr. Jones shot his wife and their children, 8-year-old Jesse and 4-year-old Tessa, in their rural home in Frankton, about 40 miles north of Indianapolis, on Tuesday night.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Mr. Jones dialed 911 and asked the dispatchers whether they were recording the call.
I just killed my wife. I just killed both my kids, he said on the tape, which was released Friday.
Sheriff Richwine said he didn't want to release the tape, but agreed to after the Herald Bulletin newspaper of Anderson filed a request under the state's open-records law.
I can see absolutely no value in this, Sheriff Richwine said. You're only going to hurt the family.
But this case is going to have to be closed because we have no suspect no one to pursue, he said.
Police had been called to the house for previous disturbances, including an incident in which Mr. Jones was arrested on domestic battery charges. He was convicted of a misdemeanor, the Herald Bulletin reported.
