No. 2 Michigan State crowns Miami

League-leading scorer Mike York and teammate Shawn Horcoff each scored two goals as the Michigan State Spartans overpowered the Miami University RedHawks 5-1 at the Crown before 3,768.

Michigan State, the country's number-two team, improved to 19-3-3 overall, 13-2-3 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Spartans are 3-0 this season against Miami and 6-0-2 in their last eight games against Miami, which fell to 6-16-4 overall, 4-13-3 CCHA.

Michigan State, which had a 10-game winning streak snapped with a 2-2 tie at Bowling Green Friday night, extended its unbeaten streak to 12 games. The Spartans have allowed more than one goal in just three of those 12 games.

York needed only eleven seconds to score his first goal of the game and 15th of the season.

Horcoff scored his 10th goal of the season in the first period to give the Spartans a 3-1 lead and extend to five his streak of consecutive games with at least one point.

Horcoff and York scored back-to-back goals 2:30 apart in the second period to account for the final score.
