Man shot, seriously wounded
Witnesses claim feud, accident

A man was shot during a street fight Tuesday in Mount Auburn that involved as many as 20 people.
Some of those people said the wounded man was inadvertently shot by a relative. Police were still investigating the incident late Tuesday. No arrests had been made.
Is this some sort of family feud? one officer asked some of the fight participants as officers tried to determine what happened. They replied, Yes.
Sgt. Bruce Hoffbauer said a man in his 40s was shot in the face at about 5:30 p.m. during the fight in the 100 block of East Clifton Avenue. The victim James Clark, no address available was taken to University Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
Two groups were fighting in the street, and shots started ringing out, Spc. Cecil Thomas said.
One man was working on his car in a nearby garage when he heard at least four shots.
By the time I got outside, everybody was running down the street, he said.
We don't know the circumstances involving the fight, Sgt. Hoffbauer said, while officers searched the neighborhood for the gunman.
But several people involved in the fracas, who did not want their names used, said the fight involved people from two neighborhood families and their respective friends.
Bad blood between the two groups started a couple of weeks ago after a fight over a dice game, one fight participant said. When members of the two groups ran into each other on East Clifton Avenue on Tuesday, arguing escalated into a fight, he said. At one point about 10 people from each side were involved.
The man said he was fighting with the shooting victim when one of the victim's relatives pulled out a gun and fired it in his direction. The bullet inadvertently hit the man's relative, the witness said.
Three people not involved in the shooting were arrested for disorderly conduct after police arrived.
