Metro starts Clermont route today

Metro opens a new park-and-ride express bus route today between Clermont County and downtown Cincinnati.

The Route 82 Eastgate Express will cost $1.50 each way or $56 a month.

Seven buses will leave North Park on Summerside Road in Clermont County's Union Township from 6:08 to 8:08 a.m. weekdays for two years while Fort Washington Way is being rebuilt.

A similar number of buses will leave Fifth and Walnut streets from 4:06 to 6:15 p.m.

Drivers will be directed to least congested routes by Metro's radio control tower.

Eastgate Express will not operate on major holidays or weekends, said Metro spokeswoman Sallie L. Hilvers.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is subsidizing the new service with a $3.1 million grant.
