DHL adds Sunday shift with 100 jobs
DHL Airways Inc. has added a Sunday shift at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The 8 a.m.-to-noon operation will create about 100 jobs at DHL's main North American hub.
The new operation will include three inbound flights and five outbound flights to service inbound international shipments over the weekend. Unlike DHL weekday operations, which sort materials overnight, the Sunday operation will sort for Monday morning delivery.
Larry Przybylski, director of DHL's Cincinnati hub, said the additional part-time jobs will offer flexible schedules. The jobs would bring DHL's total local work force to 1,200.
DHL Airways, the U.S. arm of the DHL Worldwide Express network, expects to hire another 700 workers over 10 years in an expansion that will double the hub's capacity. Currently, 75 percent to 80 percent of DHL's domestic cargo is shipped through Cincinnati.
MedPlus makes deal with Canadian firm
MedPlus Inc., the Cincinnati supplier of medical patient records software, said Friday that it has signed a joint reseller agreement with the Canadian company Datacom, which provides document-conversion and information-management services to health-care companies.
The agreement would allow Datacom to sub-license and sell MedPlus' patient-record and document-management systems in Canada and give MedPlus the green light to market Datacom's services in the United States.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Lane named president of tool-builder Makino
Don D. Lane, senior vice president of machine tool builder Makino in Mason, has been named president and chief executive, succeeding Donald D. Bowers.
Because of slower machine tool sales, Makino earlier this month trimmed about 50 jobs, or 10 percent of its work force, but the company said Thursday's announcement was unconnected to that decision.
This is a natural evolution for me. When I assumed this role in 1987, my plan was to serve as president and CEO for approximately 10 years, Mr. Bowers said. Mr. Bowers will continue as a Makino director through June.
Mr. Lane, 44, an employee of Makino for 20 years, has been senior vice president for two years.
Ky. jobless rate at record low for month
Unemployment in Kentucky hit a 25-year low in December, according to the state's Department for Employment Services.
The December rate was 3.8 percent, the lowest rate ever recorded for that month in the 29 years that statistics have been kept, and the lowest in the state since May 1974, when the rate was 3.7 percent.
With 1.95 million Kentuckians working, just 74,093 were unemployed, down more than 10,000 from a year earlier. The biggest job gains came in services, retailing, government and construction.
Midland dividend will be increased
