Teacher charged with hitting student
Police, schools probe kindergartner's story

The Cincinnati Enquirer
A Cincinnati kindergarten teacher was arrested Friday morning after being accused earlier this week of hitting a student.
Police arrested Mary Schneider, 33, a teacher at the West End's Heberle Elementary School, about 10:30 a.m. Friday at her Springfield Township home, court records said. She faces a misdemeanor assault charge.
Ms. Schneider was released from the Hamilton County Justice Center on her own recognizance Friday, according to jail records. She is expected to be arraigned this morning.
Earlier this week, a kindergarten student went to the Heberle principal's office complaining that Ms. Schneider hit him on the face, said John Concannon, general counsel for Cincinnati Public Schools.
The school principal took a photograph of the child's face and his parents were notified. Cincinnati police investigators also got involved. The school district is cooperating with the police investigation and continues one of its own, Mr. Concannon said.
The school district reassigned Ms. Schneider as the investigations continue into the accusations. She is not working with students, Mr. Concannon said.
Another teacher has taken over her kindergarten class.
