Fine Arts Sampler: Museum & Gallery Highlights




        Experience first-hand the sights and sounds of Cincinnati Bell's Fine Arts Sampler, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 and 14. Here is a list of Saturday and Sunday events at museums and galleries:

        Arts In Middletown

        130 N. Verity Parkway, Middletown, Saturday 11-5, Sunday 12-5.

        This organization is host to many wonderful musical, theatrical and artistic performances for the weekend. All persons attending the performances on Saturday will receive discount coupons for that evening's performance of the Sorg Opera Company's Rigoletto. On Sunday, anyone attending performances will receive discount tickets to any of Miami University Middletown's Artist and Lecture Series.

        Cincinnati Art Museum

        953 Eden Park Drive, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 11-5

        The museum will showcase approximately 40 posters in an exhibition designed to show how art posters flourished during the 1890s in America. Major publishing companies hired professional artists to design posters of high aesthetic merit to advertise forthcoming issues of their magazines, books and newspapers. These art posters had many lasting effects: They evoked changes in the design of illustrations and covers for books and magazines, and generated new business ventures as well as novel marketing techniques.

        Contemporary Arts Center

        115 E. Fifth St., downtown, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 12-5

        Current exhibitions include Amnesia: New Art from South America, the photography of Jim Dine and the work of video artist Bruce Nauman.

        Fitton Center for Creative Arts

        101 S. Monument Ave., Hamilton, Saturday 10-5

        An open house featuring demonstrations in the pottery studio, visitation of ballet classes and artists studios. The main galleries include artist Brian Joiner's Strong Spirits and a display of photographs and music by a diverse group of female banjo players in Appalachia entitled Banjo Women in West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky: A Multi-Media Exhibit.

        Kenton County Public Library

        Fifth and Scott streets, Covington, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 1-5

        See SummerFair's Best of Show art as well as their poster collection.

        Taft Museum

        316 Pike St., downtown, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 12-5

        Self-guided tours for all ages enliven this world-class art collection housed in a historic home. Meet famous folks from the past, encounter farm animals and mythical beasts, take a light-hearted tour packed with gossip and fun facts or marvel at the special exhibition Framing a Century: American Art from the Dicke Collection, 1862-1997.

        Weston Art Gallery

        Aronoff Center for the Arts, 650 Walnut St., downtown, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 12-5

        Displaying the art of talented high school students who are the winners of Cincinnati Bell's Fine Arts Sampler poster contest. Ryan Young, a senior at Elder High School, is this year's first-place winner.Also, don't miss the current exhibit Digital Dialogues, which brings together four artists who are using new media or digital operations in the production of their work.
