Fine Arts Sampler: Sunday schedule




        Experience first-hand the sights and sounds of Cincinnati Bell's Fine Arts Sampler, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 and 14. Here is Sunday's schedule of events:

Museum & Gallery Highlights
        SUNDAY, FEB. 14

10 a.m.-noon — Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. Stage a great time during an open house, complete with backstage tours of the theater and get your face painted by Playhouse makeup artists until 11 a.m.

        10 a.m.-noon — Improv Scenes, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. Members of the Ohio University MFA Acting Company of Cincinnati Playhouse lead the audience in interactive improvisational scenes for all ages.

        10:30 a.m. and noon — Paper Fantasies, Northern Kentucky University, Greaves Concert Hall. Join sampler's favorite cut-up artist, Jonathon Heart, for Origami Meets The Price Is Right, a wonderful artistic game show. Everyone wins a prize!

        11 a.m. — CIC Percussion, Contemporary Dance Theatre, Town Hall, 1805 Larch Ave., College Hill. You're in for a hand-clapping, foot-tapping, continental tour as you enjoy rhythms from Nigeria, Brazil and Cuba.

        11:30 a.m. — CCM Students, Cincinnati Art Museum, Great Hall. A dance program of various dance styles performed by students from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music and dance ensemble.

        11:30 a.m. — Baldwin Grand - Cincinnati Style, Emery Theatre. Students and instructors at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music perform a classical repertoire. Visual art by City Art Education Center students will be on display all day.

        Noon — Intuition Theatre Presents 20th Century Rocks, College of Mount St. Joseph, Theatre. Bet Stewart performs in the story of a red-nosed immigrant who looks at the 20th century. All ages will enjoy this comical romp through the century's music and history.

        Noon — Gallery Tours, Arts In Middletown. Watercolors by artist Sandy Maudlin of Lawrenceburg, Ind., will be featured in a tour of the facility.

        12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m. — MadCap Productions Puppet Theatre, Cincinnati Art Museum, auditorium. A giant puppet performance by MadCap Productions Puppet Theatre.

        12:30-3 p.m. — Art Workshop Open House, Wyoming Fine Arts Center. Visit the workshop and facility to learn about existing opportunities sponsored by the Art Workshop.

        1-2:30 p.m. — Music Hall Guides, Music Hall. This Music Hall open house includes tours of the carpenter shops, backstage and the beautifully renovated ballroom.

        1 p.m. — Sock n' Silk Puppetroupe, The Taft Museum, Music Room. Classic folk tales will be performed by marionettes. Guaranteed to be enjoyed by children and their families.

        1 p.m. — The Anneliese von Oettingen School of Ballet, Carnegie Center of Columbia-Tusculum, 3738 Eastern Ave. Students from the AVO School of Ballet, Eastern Hills Branch, will perform a diverse program of ballet and theater, under the direction of Maki Kabayama.

        1 p.m. — Cincinnati String Academy, Wyoming Fine Arts Center. Hear students, faculty and the Academy Quartet as they delight an audience of all ages with their concert performances.

        1 p.m. — The Mason Chorale, Arts In Middletown. This musical group will perform various delightful selections for all ages.

        1:30 p.m. — Forget-Me-Not, The Historical Dance Company, Cincinnati Art Museum, Great Hall. All ages will enjoy these performers as they reconstruct ballroom dances from the Titanic era and dance to the music played on board in 1912.

        1:30 p.m. — Baldwin Grand - Cincinnati Style, Emery Theatre. Todd Hepburn of Hoodoo Moon returns again this year, followed by Sonny Hill of The Nightshift.

        2-5 p.m. — Animal Art, University of Cincinnati Clermont College. Visit the Clermont Art Gallery and see works by Nancy McCarthy, a self-taught artist who moved from advertising art to fine art as her children grew.

        2 p.m. — Jazz Concert, The Contemporary Arts Center. A Latin musical group will perform a concert in the CAC galleries, guaranteed to jazz up your Sunday afternoon.

        2 p.m. — Peter and the Wolf, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet Offices, 1555 Central Pkwy., downtown. The Cincinnati Ballet welcomes audiences of all ages into their “home” to enjoy this classic tale.

        2 p.m. — Cincinnati Choral Society, Cathedral Basilica, Covington, Ky. Listen to the beautiful sounds and selections of classical and sacred instrumental and vocal music.

        2 p.m. — Cincinnati Folk Life, Carnegie Center of Columbia-Tusculum. Students and faculty of the Riley School of Irish Music play Celtic tunes while the Horne family dancers show you what to do with your two left feet. Audience participation is encouraged.

        2 p.m. — Cotton Patch Gospel, University of Cincinnati Clermont College, Krueger Auditorium. The Beechmont Players will perform a vignette from this show, a toe-tapping interlude staged in a rural Georgia setting.

        2 p.m. — Jazz Band, Arts In Middletown. The Madison High School Jazz Band is guaranteed to liven up your weekend with this performance for an audience of all ages.

        2 p.m. — Women Writing for (a) Change, 4850 Madison Road, Oakley-Madisonville. Children and parents writing together. Participants will write stories on a theme common to all age groups. Writing time will be followed by time to share in a safe and supportive setting.

        2:30 p.m. — Blue Ash Youth Symphony Orchestra, Northern Kentucky University, Greaves Concert Hall. More than 100 seventh to 12th graders, from more than 40 schools in the area make up this orchestra that will present an enjoyable repertoire of classical, modern and popular music.

        2:30 p.m. — Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, College of Mount St. Joseph Theatre. This orchestra of more than 100 area high school students, conducted by Chelsea Tipton II, will delight audiences with their youthful energy and musical excellence.

        3 p.m. — Cincinnati Folk Life, Carnegie Center of Columbia-Tusculum. Workshops on traditional Celtic musical instruments and Celtic art. Presented by the faculty of the Riley School of Irish Music and Celtic artist Cindy Matyi.

        3 p.m. — Musica da Camera, The Taft Museum, Music Room. A trio of chamber musicians will perform classic Baroque favorites.

        3 p.m. — You Can Move, Hands-on Musical Workshop for Kids, University of Cincinnati Clermont College. Join Phil Baker in the student lounge. (See Saturday's schedule for more details.)

        3 p.m. — Carnegie Jazz Series, The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center. The Bill Gemmer Band with singer Lynn Scott.

        3 p.m. — ConBrio Winds, Wyoming Fine Arts Center. Tap your toes to music enjoyed by all ages, including popular, Broadway hits, marches, light classics and jazz performed by one of the liveliest woodwind quintets in town.

        3 p.m. — Open Jazz Jam, Arts In Middletown. Bring your instrument and sit in on this jam. A piano will be provided for those who would like to perform with others and express their talents this Sampler Weekend.

        3 p.m. — City Lights, Music Hall Lobby, 1241 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine. This popular group of local songsters sing and dance to musical selections ranging from swing, bop, jazz, '50s, '60s and blues.

        3:30 p.m. — Cincinnati Boychoir, Cathedral Basilica. Enjoy a varied choral program including folk songs, a riverboat medley, and sacred, secular classics.

        3:30 p.m. — Baldwin Grand - Cincinnati Style, Emery Theatre. Ricky Nye of the Red Hots and the Swingin' Mud Bugs returns again this year, followed by Cincinnati blues legend Big Joe Duskin & Friends.

        4 p.m. — A Choral Sampler, Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati, Cathedral Basilica. Music and texts of women composers, works of J.S. Bach and Mozart, and newer sounds.

        4 p.m. — Lion's Roar Marching Band, College of Mount St. Joseph, Theatre. With more than 40 musicians, Cincinnati's newest marching band will give a performance that will pep up your weekend and put a spring in your step.

        4 p.m. — Cincinnati Folk Life, Carnegie Center of Columbia-Tusculum. Storyteller Sandy Messerly presents the mythical power of love brought to life through stories. Kate and Tim Murphy will also perform some of their favorite romantic love ballads.

        4 p.m. — Middletown Music Club, Arts In Middletown. Members of this club will play beautiful musical selections in solo and small group performances.

        4 p.m. — Chamber Music, University of Cincinnati Clermont College. Members of the Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra, which recently celebrated its first anniversary, will present a concert in Krueger Auditorium.

        4 p.m. — Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Music Hall. An exciting, fun-filled journey through all your orchestral favorites, conducted by John Morris Russell. The Fine Arts Sampler Weekend finale! A free voucher required (one voucher is good for two tickets) for this performance. They may be picked up at Cincinnati Bell's office, 201 E. Fourth St., downtown, and Music Hall box office until Friday, Feb. 12. Or call in a request for a voucher to 397-5347.

        7:30 p.m. — Queen City Balladeers, the YMCA, 270 Calhoun St., Clifton. Finish celebrating Sampler Weekend with these wonderful performers as they set up their weekly Leo Coffeehouse. Hear musicians who will play folk music for an audience of all ages.
