Fine Arts Sampler: Saturday schedule
Experience first-hand the sights and sounds of Cincinnati Bell's Fine Arts Sampler, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 and 14. Here is Saturday's schedule of events:
SATURDAY, FEB. 13
9:30 a.m. Arts Alive Hearts Around Hearts, The Arts Consortium, 1515 Linn St., West End. Children ages 5-12 will enjoy this special craft, just in time for Valentine's Day.
9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. A Few of My Favorite Things, Youth Art Exhibit, The Arts Consortium. Come see works presented by some of Cincinnati's exciting, emerging artists. A Meet the Artist Reception starts at 3 p.m.
9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sit Down and Stitch Awhile, The Arts Consortium. Guests are welcome to add a square to the Village Quilt. Bring your own ornament to add on, or choose one of the ACC's.
10 a.m. ACC Children's Performance Company Preview, The Arts Consortium. The audience will receive a sneak peek of the newly formed Children's Dance Company, Chorale Group and Theatre Troupe.
10 a.m.-3 p.m. Playhouse Scenery Shop, 2827 Gilbert Ave., Walnut Hills. Continuous tours of the scenery, paint and prop shops.
10 a.m. Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Memorial Hall, 1225 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine. Join the entire orchestra for a music-filled morning, a delight for all ages.
10 and 11:30 a.m. Linton's Peanut Butter & Jam Sessions, City Hall Council Chambers, 801 Plum St. Experience a fun, informal and educational introduction to classical music for 2- to 5-year-old children and their families.
10 a.m. The Merry Maidens, Cincinnati Art Museum, Auditorium, Eden Park. The audience is encouraged to participate as these performers teach, dance and sing in historic costumes from the Renaissance period.
10 a.m. Tap Dance Workshop, Wyoming Fine Arts Center, 322 Wyoming Ave. Bring your tap shoes if you have them and take a class with one of the best tap teachers in Cincinnati, Gloria Esenwein. No experience required.
10 a.m. Musikgarten Music Classes, Wyoming Fine Arts Center. Susan Grieff will lead a delightful musical demonstration class for preschoolers to 7-year-olds.
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Face Painting, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Eden Park. Stop in and become a piece of art. Get your face painted by Playhouse makeup artists.
10 a.m. The Art Workshop, Wyoming Fine Arts Center. Hands-on art activities for all ages.
10 a.m.-1 p.m. Kids and Computer Art, The Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, 3458 Reading Road, Avondale. Use the computer to design greeting cards, posters, banners and explore the Internet.
11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Stories from Around the World, Enjoy The Arts, 1338 Main St., downtown. Omope Carter-Daboiku, a professional Appalachian storyteller, will delight audiences of all ages with her multicultural folk tales.
11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. One Ring, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. My Nose Turns Red Theatre Company presents a dazzling show for all ages.
11 a.m. Art a la Carte, The Arts Consortium. Adults of all ages will enjoy this fast-paced, hands-on arts and crafts activity. Finished products reflect the African-American culture.
11 a.m. Shelley Graff, Old Maid Aunts Productions, Raymond Walters College, Muntz Hall, 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash. Graff shares her music about women, family, the environment and healing, laughter, and love.
11 a.m. Ginny Frazier with Circles & Arrows, The Taft Museum, Music Room, 316 Pike St., downtown. Watch as Frazier blends original folk songs with Native American roots, music and stories of family history.
11:30 a.m. African Drumming, It's All in the Beat, The Arts Consortium. Come with a drum and join African drum artist Ojinga Khamisi as he teaches various drumming techniques and discusses other African instruments.
11:30 a.m. Baldwin Grand-Cincinnati Style, Emery Theatre, 1112 Walnut St., downtown. Students and instructors at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music perform classical repertoire.
11:45 a.m. Lee Hoffman, Raymond Walters College, Muntz Hall, Blue Ash. Come and enjoy the vocal and piano music of Lee Hoffman; an inspiring synthesis of rich musical heritage and years of world-class musical training.
Noon and 1 p.m. The Bucket Boyz, Cincinnati Art Museum, Great Hall. Don't miss Cincinnati's very own drumming sensation, The Bucket Boyz, compose extraordinary rhythms as they beat drums made from recycled buckets.
Noon Cincinnati Opera's Papagayo, Cincinnati Art Museum, Auditorium. Come enjoy a puppet opera featuring the pesky parrot, Papagayo. Guaranteed to delight kindergartners through third graders.
Noon Remembering with Art, Contemporary Arts Center, 115 E. Fifth St., downtown. Children will decorate postcards with stamps, markers and stickers and for someone special on Valentine's Day.
Noon Forever Plaid, Arts In Middletown, 130 N. Verity Parkway. The Middletown Lyric Theatre will perform selections from this musical for all audiences.
Noon Urban Appalachian Council, Cincinnati Public Library, Main Atrium, 800 Vine St., downtown. Listen to stories, songs and poetry that showcase an entertaining mix of what makes local Appalachian migrants unique.
12:30-2 p.m. Afrikan-American Drum & Dance Ensemble, West End YMCA, 821 Ezzard Charles Dr. Participate in their workshop and experience this introductory course in West African dance and rhythm.
12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Stage First Cincinnati, Cincinnati Art Museum, Great Hall. Come and witness the excitement as Stage First reenacts sword fights from their production of Cyrano de Bergerac.
1-4 p.m. Art Classes, The Carnegie, 1028 Scott Blvd., Covington, Ky. Hands-on art classes for children ages 4-12 years and their parents; four instructors use several mediums.
1 p.m. Drums for Peace, Raymond Walters College, Muntz Hall. Listen to the sounds of Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. You'll be dancing in your seat.
1 p.m. Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival, 719 Race St., downtown. The CSF will perform scenes from their current production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
1 p.m. Medasi Dance Theatre, The Arts Consortium. Come join Shera Khamisi and other company members as they teach various African dance movements to students of all ages, genders and cultures.
1 p.m. Cinderella, University of Cincinnati Clermont College, Student Lounge, Batavia. This classic tale will be performed by a brand-new production company, The Meri Pranxsters of Milford.
1 and 2:15 p.m. Theatre IV's Art Reach, NKU, Greaves Concert Hall, Nunn Drive, Highland Heights, Ky. Enjoy this stirring drama, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. This is a musical performance for grades 2-9.
1 p.m. Art Demonstration, Arts In Middletown. The Middletown Fine Arts Center will captivate audiences with their demonstrations in ceramics, painting and caricatures.
1:30 p.m. Baldwin Grand - Cincinnati Style, Emery Theatre. Randy Villars, of Levels, ROTC and the Blue Birds Big Band, plus renowned Cincinnati pianist and organist, Steve Schmidt.
1:30 p.m. Children's Choir of Greater Cincinnati, Cathedral Basilica, 1140 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky. Come to the combined and individual performances of the Bel Canto Choir and the Concert Choir and hear more than 100 young voices.
2 p.m. May Festival Chorus, St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, Eighth and Plum streets, downtown. A wonderful combination of the adult and youth choirs. Enjoy the sights and sounds of choral masterpieces.
2 p.m. Over-The-Rhine Steel Drum Band, Memorial Hall. Warm up your weekend with this performance of Caribbean, popular and traditional music on instruments made from 55-gallon oil drums.
2 p.m. Cincinnati String Academy, Wyoming Fine Arts Center. This performance showcases students from the Suzuki String Program in a variety of musical concerts.
2 p.m. Bi-Okoto Drum & Dance Theatre, Cincinnati Art Museum, Auditorium. You'll be entertained, educated and invited to participate in traditional West African dance and drumming.
2 and 4 p.m. Maharaja's Wedding, Cincinnati Art Museum, Great Hall. The Cultural Center of India invites everyone to the wedding of Maharaja and Maharani.
2 p.m. Paul T. Hawthorne and Company, The Taft Museum, Music Room. Enjoy this jazz group as they perform music from the 1960s to 1980s, offering historical notes about the artists and music.
2 p.m. Music from the Heart, Lane Public Library, 300 N. Third St., Hamilton. Join Richard Goering, classical guitar player, and Sandra Seefeld on the flute for an afternoon of exquisite music.
2 p.m. You Can Move, Hands-on Musical Workshop for Kids, University of Cincinnati Clermont College, Student Lounge. See Phil Baker, one of the nation's most popular children's performers.
2 p.m. Middletown Youth Symphony, Arts In Middletown. Members of the symphony will perform various melodies for all ages to enjoy.
3 p.m. Appalachian Storytelling, University of Cincinnati Clermont College, Student Lounge. Come and listen to Phyllis Bach Frederick as she engages the audience with tales of Appalachian life.
3 p.m. Gallery Tours, Arts In Middletown. Watercolors by Sandy Maudlin of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, will be featured in a tour of the facility.
3 p.m. The Footlighters Present Noises Off, Stained Glass Theatre, 802 York St., Newport, Ky. This group will perform the first act of this side-splitting farce about second-rate actors rehearsing a third-rate play.
3:30 p.m. Baldwin Grand - Cincinnati Style, Emery Theatre. Charlie Fletcher of the Blue Birds performs first, followed by Cincinnati's own Earl Waldman, a favorite at Dee Felice, performing with several longtime friends.
3:30 p.m. Medasi African Dance Theatre, Raymond Walters College, Muntz Hall. Lecture-demonstration and performance of traditional African dance, music and folklore. Audience participation of all ages is encouraged at this event.
3:30 p.m. The Tale of Dani's Daring Dragon, University of Cincinnati Clermont College, Student Lounge. Come enjoy interactive skits, written and performed by Lonna Kingsbury, under the artistic direction of Darlene Siemer.
4 p.m. Afrikan-American Drum & Dance Ensemble, Cincinnati Art Museum, Auditorium. All ages are invited to witness the sights and sounds of West Africa as these performers dance to the beat of drums.
4 p.m. Cincinnati Kinderballet and Cincinnati Junior Strings, Northern Kentucky University, Greaves Concert Hall. These wonderful children's groups will perform together and separately.
4 p.m. Cincinnati Men's Chorus, Memorial Hall. Show tunes to classics will engage adults of all ages. The CMC will also perform love songs from their upcoming concert, Sleeping with the Past.
4 p.m. Middletown Lyric Theatre, Arts In Middletown. This group returns for a delightful afternoon performance of various musical theater selections.
4:30 p.m. Show Biz Kidz, Raymond Walters College, Muntz Hall. This wonderful musical theater troupe consisting of boys and girls ages 6-14 will delight audiences with their '50s-'60s-'70s show.
5 p.m. Middletown Symphony Orchestra, Arts In Middletown. Come and listen to the wonderful sounds of featured performers from the orchestra.
