NKU women win GLVC crown

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. Freshman forward Michelle Cottrell scored 25 points an d grabbed 18 rebounds Saturday as Northern Kentucky won the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season championship with a 68-64 win over St. Joseph's College.
Cottrell scored three key baskets in the final two minutes as the Norse (22-2) won their first GLVC regular-season title since 1991.
Michele Tuchfarber added 17 points and was 4-of-8 from three-point range.
St. Joseph's took a 56-50 lead with 7:20 remaining, but Cottrell scored eight of NKU's next 12 points to give the Norse a 62-58 advantage.
Cottrell later sealed the win with two free throws with five seconds left.
Shannon Roddy scored 14 points for NKU, which has now won 14 consecutive games and is ranked No.14 in the NCAA Division II poll.
The Norse are the No.1 seed at the upcoming GLVC Tournament at Evansville, Ind.
