Officer hurt trying to stop car

BY PERRY BROTHERS and WILLIAM A. WEATHERS
The Cincinnati Enquirer

A Cincinnati police officer was injured late Monday after his car was struck by a vehicle he had attempted to stop in Price Hill.

The driver fled as officers fired at him, leading cruisers on a brief chase that ended on the Sixth Street viaduct in Queensgate.

Police said the incident began about 10:35 p.m. at Warsaw and Grand avenues when undercover officers asked a marked car to stop a vehicle as part of a drug investigation.

“He refused to stop,” said Sgt. Julie Shearer of police District 3. “He rammed one of the cruisers, hurting one of our officers. That's when officers fired.”

The injured officer's name and condition were not available early today.

With other cars in pursuit, the suspect fled down Ring to Underwood Place, then to the Sixth Street viaduct, said Lt. Mark Briede of police District 1.

At least one bullet punctured a tire on the car.

Within minutes, the suspect was in custody. His name was not available early today.
