N.KY. GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP


No. 3 Highlands beats No. 2 Conner

        Highlands took a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and went on to an easy 68-39 victory over Conner in girls basketball action Monday at Conner.

        Stephanie Sandfoss scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half when the Bluebirds, ranked third in The Enquirer's coaches poll, broke the game open with a 16-7 run.

        Highlands was led by Tara Boothe (18 points) and Christian Stefanopoulos (12). Jennifer Stasie paced No.2 Conner with 12 points.

        • Newport Central Catholic 69, Campbell County 65, at Campbell County — The Thoroughbreds converted 17-of-22 free throws in the fourth quarter.

        In the tightly officiated game, Campbell County was assessed 31 fouls, NCC was called for 24 which resulted in 91 free throws.

        “We had every opportunity to win but missed the free throws,” Campbell County coach Ed Cravens said. “They also dominated the boards with 56 rebounds compared to our 36.”

        • Dayton 40, Silver Grove 39, at Dayton — Stacy Brooks sank a 15-foot jump shot with four second remaining to secure the Dayton victory.

        Silver Grove took a 39-38 lead with 15 seconds remaining, after a 20-12 Dayton run erased a seven-point deficit.

        Samantha Hollingsworth led Dayton with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Elizabeth Steidel led Silver Grove with 12 points.

        • Boone County 49, Scott 34, at Scott — The Rebels took a 15-2 lead in the first quarter behind Ciara Henderson's nine points.

        Boone County extended its lead to 31-10 at halftime. Henderson finished with 15 points and Katie Schleisman added 14.
