Mr. Dinger will be sentenced March 12 by Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Arthur Ney.

Police said his friend, 26-year-old David Chase of Madeira, was a passenger in the 1998 GMC Sonoma that Mr. Dinger was driving.

The grandfather, John Taylor of the 6000 block of Buckwheat Road, is facing obstruction of justice charges because he told police his grandson was not there.

“He had a pretty bad day,” said Miami Township Police Chief Steve Bailey.

David Taylor was serving a 180-day sentence on convictions of theft, bad checks and a failure to appear in court on a driving license suspension charges.

Chief Bailey said he had served a week in jail and was put on probation. “When he visited his probation officer, he failed a urine test,” Chief Bailey said. “I guess he figured it was time to take off.”

Optometrist indicted on new sex charge
Two weeks after he pleaded guilty to fondling children during eye exams, an optometrist was indicted Friday on a charge involving another girl.

Muhammad Akhtar now is accused of having improper contact with five children.

Prosecutors said the new charge of gross sexual imposition involves an 11-year-old girl.

Mr. Akhtar pleaded guilty last month to six counts of gross sexual imposition involving girls who ranged in age from 10 to 15 years old. Mr. Akhtar, 34, faces up to 13 years in prison.

Prosecutors said two of the counts involved a 15-year-old who was told by Mr. Akhtar to pull up her blouse and remove her bra. They said he then touched the girl's breasts.

They said the other counts involved similar conduct by Mr. Akhtar during eye exams between July and October 1998.

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — A 13-year-old murder suspect told a neighbor that his 5-year-old playmate deserved to die, according to court testimony.

Tami Eckert testified Thursday that she was “overwhelmed” by Anthony Harris' comments after she told him and her stepson that Devan Duniver had been found stabbed to death. Anthony is on trial in Tuscarawas County Juvenile Court for allegedly killing Devan on June 27.

“Anthony said she was mean to him,” Ms. Eckert testified. “He said she was a brat. He said she called him names and had thrown a brick at him one time. He said she deserved what she got.”

Ms. Eckert said she reprimanded him by saying a “5-year-old baby” doesn't deserve to die.
