Callers can learn of jobs at airport
Phone line updated and easier to use

HEBRON A few hundred airport jobs are literally a phone call away.
Information on jobs at more than 50 companies located at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is available by calling the Kenton County Airport Board employment line at 767-JOBS (5627).
400 openings
The line has been in existence for about two years. But to get more response, the line has been revamped and the board is doing more to promote it, said airport spokesman Ted Bushelman.
We used to have about 1,000 jobs open out here at all times, Mr. Bushelman said, but now we're down to about 400 openings.
TANK bus routes that reach the airport from Northern Kentucky communities and downtown Cincinnati, aggressive advertising of want ads and job fairs have all helped airport businesses fill positions over the last few years, Mr. Bushelman said.
The airport has also placed job openings at the two Northern Kentucky locations of the Kentucky Department of Employment Services, which helps people find jobs.
But we think with the improvements we've made to the job line, and the more we are doing to publicize it, more people can learn about the jobs out here by just calling the line, he said.
The line is being updated more often and is easier to use than before, Mr. Bushelman said.
Three categories
Callers can learn about jobs in three categories: airlines; food and retail; and airport and aircraft operations.
A call late last week yielded information about jobs at Delta Air Lines, which operates its second-largest hub at the airport and is almost always looking for workers.
Delta is hiring customer service agents, who help passengers with tickets and checking into flights, and reservationists. The airline is also looking for people to load and unload baggage and cargo and to service planes.
Information about wages and benefits isn't given Mr. Bushelman acknowledges that
most of the positions on the jobs line are entry level but some requirements are.
For instance, to work with ticketing or reservations an employee must type 30 words per minute. To work on the ramp, he must be able to lift at least 70 pounds.
Drug tests and background checks are required.
Mr. Bushelman said anybody wishing to apply should keep in mind the TANK bus service. And for those who drive, free parking is available.
What we're trying to sell is that the airport is a good, exciting place to work, that we have a lot of jobs available in a lot of different areas and with a lot of different companies, he said.
