Dependable Damian Simmons left his uncle's Roselawn home nine days ago, saying he would meet a friend for the drive back to Central State University.
Cincinnati police said the 25-year-old sophomore never made it to the Wilberforce campus 60 miles away in Greene County, and his family hasn't heard from him.
Cincinnati police on Sunday issued a critical-missing report on Mr. Simmons, who is from Austin, Texas, but often stays with Ohio relatives on weekends.
Apparently this guy is really, really dependable, and it's really unusual that he wouldn't call, said Cincinnati officer Denise Neu.
Solving the mystery of Mr. Simmons' whereabouts might hinge on the ability of police to answer two questions: Who was his traveling companion, and what vehicle were they in?
Alarm heightened when Mr. Simmons failed to contact his parents in Austin. He typically calls them at least weekly, Officer Neu said.
Sunday, police were expect ing to interview the roommate who shares Mr. Simmons' off-campus home.
Mr. Simmons is described as an African-American, 6-feet-4-inches tall. When he left his uncle's Shenandoah Avenue home at 1 p.m. on Feb. 13, he was wearing a yellow coat, gray pants, gym shoes, a Texas class ring and a gold watch.
In another missing person case, Cincinnati police have located 14-year-old Amber Inman, the Northside girl who disappeared Wednesday on her way to Schwab Middle School. She was found in Tennessee and is being held there until relatives can pick her up, police said Sunday night.
No additional details were available from police.
Earlier, police had said she might have fled with her stepfather's father, Hezkiah Randy Smith, 56, and they might have traveled to Mr. Smith's home in Oneida, Tenn.
