CINCINNATI BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP


Middletown dominates boards, bounces Piqua

        Middletown opened the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run en route to a 67-50 victory over Piqua Tuesday in Division I boys sectional basketball tournament action at Wright State University.

        Rhett McCoy scored six early in the fourth quarter and Luke Schumacher adding five late. Schumacher finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

        • Princeton 80, Greenville 47, Division I sectional at UD Arena — Mario Grove and Larry Brown each came up with double-doubles. Groves scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds with Brown nabbing 13 points and 11 rebounds.

        Rebounding was important. Princeton pulled down 51 rebounds and Greenville 28. Cory Wohlgamuth was the only bright spot for Greenville with 16 points.

        The Vikings, who earned a spot int he Dayton Division I sectional championship game, now have a nine-day layoff.

        • Colerain 72, Harrison 46, Division I sectional at Millett Hall — The Cardinals scored the final seven points in the second quarter.

        Helie White scored 21 points to lead four Cardinals in double figures. Joe Allen and Mike Ferris each added 13 for Colerain.

        • Oxford Talawanda 61, Mt. Heathy 50, Division I sectional at Millett Hall — Sophomore guard Ryan Holmes sank 5-of-6 free throws in the final 3:45 to clinch the victory for the Braves.

        Mount Healthy held a 29-26 halftime lead, but the Talawanda full court press forced nine third-quarter turnovers, leading to a 46-42 lead.

        Holmes finished with a game-high 20 points while Paul Mills paced Mount Healthy with 18. Talawanda sanked 16-of-21 free throws while the Owls made only 1-of-3.

        • Deer Park 63, Mariemont 55, Division III sectional at Sycamore — The Wildcats rallied from a 42-38 deficit, scoring 25 points in the fourth quarter.

        Justin Dennis scored 10 points and Jason Grub added seven in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats.

        Grubb sank 5-of-6 free throws in the closing minutes to seal the outcome.

        MARIEMONT (55) — Minor 4 1 11, Monday 3 2 8, Fisher 7 2 19, Denker 2 7 11, Martin 3 0 6. Totals: 19 12 55.

        • National Trail 62, Middletown Fenwick 46, Division III sectional at UD Arena — Nathan Beck scored nine points and Tom Clark added eight in the fourth quarter, sparking a 23-9 run. National Trail convered 10-of-13 free throws while Fenwick made 2-of-4. Beck led all scorers with 24 points.

        • Wyoming 74, Felicity 51, Division III sectional at Sycamore — Richard Hall and Eric Bell eached scored six points in the second quarter, triggering a 21-6 run for the Cowboys.

        Felicity made a game of it in the first quarter, with Doug Easter scoring eight and David Long six.

        Wyoming meets the winner of tonight's game between Indian Hill and Reading on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
