CINCINNATI GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP


St. Ursula rips Western Brown

        St. Ursula's five starters all scored in double figures as the Bulldogs routed Western Brown 84-48 Tuesday night in the girls Division II sectional basketball tournament at Kings.

        Gretchen Menke led the way with a game-high 19 points while Megan Veith added 14. Jessie Smith's 13 points led the Broncos.

        St. Ursula plays McNicholas in Thursday's sectional championship game.

        • McNicholas 69, Springboro 63, Division II sectional at Kings — The Rockets erased a 17-2 first quarter deficit as Ashley Clark scored 15 points during a 35-15 run in the first half.

        Kendra Hornschemeier iced the victory with four consecutive free throws during the final two minutes. Springboro, the No.4 seed, was led by Kelsey Sullivan with 18.

        • Little Miami 53, Bellbrook 43, Division II at Springboro — Keli Gentry's three-point field goal to start the fourth quarter triggered a 24-9 run that led the No.2-seeded Panthers .

        Little Miami wrapped it up by sinking 19-of-21 free throws with Gentry perfect in eight attempts with Courtney Balser sinking five without a miss. Gentry finished with 17 points and Balser 16.

        Little Miami advances to the sectional championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday against Kettering Alter.

        • Kettering Alter 44, Franklin 39, at Springboro — Irina Basiliu and Robyn Heaton each hit a field goal and a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter to lead the Knights to an upset over No.3-seed Franklin.

        Alter led the entire fourth quarter, due mainly to defense that held the Wildcats to seven points during the final eight minutes.

        • Jamestown Greeneview 56, Ripley 49 (OT), Division III sectional at Wilmington — Billie Jo Burch made six free throws in overtime as Greeneview earned a berth in the championship game Thursday against Springfield Northwest.

        • Felicity 55, Georgetown 35, Division III sectional at Wilmington — B.J. Robinson scored 20 points and Sarah Shinkle added 16 to lead No.3-seed Felicity. Felicity faces top-seeded Waynesville in the sectional final at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
