Daugherty named top 10 columnist
For the second straight year, The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Daugherty was named one of the nation's top 10 sports columnists by the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE).
Among the 1998 columns honored was a story about the heroic efforts of Anderson High School cross-country runner John Kapoor, who competed despite his struggles with brain tumors.
Try running the way John runs now, after you've spent your whole life running the way John used to run. Imagine the frustration, the sadness, the desperation, the dread. John would. If he had the time, Daugherty wrote.
The awards were given in APSE's over-175,000 circulation category. Daugherty's columns will undergo a second round of judging to determine further rankings.
Daugherty has been a sports columnist at the Enquirer since 1994.
