Man accused of drug, food stamp scam

The Cincinnati Enquirer

A Price Hill man was arraigned Saturday on charges of trading cash and drugs for food stamps.

Anthony L. Hamm, 38, of 3761 Westmont Drive, acquired nearly $10,000 in food stamps from undercover officers between mid-December and his arrest Friday, police said.

He was being held Saturday on $15,000 cash bond.

Arguing for a lower bond, defense attorney William Frank said Mr. Hamm is a lifelong Hamilton County resident who has worked for more than 12 years as a supervisor in a wholesale company.

He had one prior felony conviction, in 1978, the attorney said. He was unable to say for what crime.

In two months, court records say, Mr. Hamm allegedly sold 6 pounds plus “one bag” of marijuana in exchange for $8,100 cash; sold “17 bags” of marijuana for $3,365 in food stamps; bought $6,470 in food stamps for $2,700 cash; sold other items for food stamps; and paid an undercover agent $50 to use her state-issued electronic benefits card at a Kroger store.

Mr. Hamm was charged with seven felony counts of drug trafficking and eight felony counts of trafficking in food stamps.
