LAS VEGAS The Las Vegas Thunder relied on a pair of goals from veteran Patrice Lefebrve and rookie Sean Berens, to defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones 4-2 Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Thunder opened the scoring when center Sean Berens tallied his 21st goal of the season, most among IHL rookies, at 2:57.
The Cyclones tied the contest at 1-1, when left wing Jeff Shevalier scored his 21st goal of the season on the power play at 7:37. Shevalier took a feed from Ed Patterson and Scott Morrow and fired it past Thunder goaltender Konstantin Simchuk.
In the third period, Las Vegas regained the lead, 2-1, when Patrice Lefebvre gunned in his second goal in two nights and 10th of the season on the power play.
Later in the period, Lefebvre scored his second of the night and 11th of the season at 7:58.
The Thunder took their two-goal edge on a 5-on-3 power play.
At 13:03 of the third period, Cyclones defenseman Jeff Wells lifted a shot over the left shoulder of Simchuk to close the gap to 3-2. Wells took a pass in front of the net from center Fred Knipscheer, to net his sixth goal of the campaign.
Las Vegas scored its final goal with 10 seconds left when Berens fired into an empty net.
