Aquarium nets sponsors to support largest exhibits

NEWPORT Three major companies with local and national ties have signed on as corporate sponsors for three exhibits at the Oceanic Adventures Newport Aquarium.
Officials of Cinergy, Fifth Third Bank Corp., and Pepsi announced Monday they will provide the sponsorships for three of the aquarium's largest exhibits.
One of the most impressive things about this project is how it has brought people together from both sides of the (Ohio) river, said aquarium president Barry Rosenberg, who is vice president of the aquarium developer, Steiner & Associates. We have companies here with strong ties both in Kentucky and Ohio, and around the country.
The exhibits are:
The Pirate Theater, sponsored by Cinergy, puts visitors aboard a pirate ship docked by a harbor town. Accommodating 250 persons at a time, the theater presents entertainment in the form of a specially created video.
Rivers Of The World, sponsored by Pepsi, is the first exhibit aquarium visitors will experience, taking them on a trip around the world on major waterways in South America, Australia, Thailand, East Africa, Mexico, and finally the Licking River here at home.
The Riverbank, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank Corp., takes visitors on a tour of the Ohio River along a 53-foot-long winding wall of acrylic and will display such river dwellers as catfish, gar, soft-shell turtles and shovelnose sturgeon in 19,000 gallons of water.
Aquarium officials announced that Montgomery Inn restaurants is the exclusive caterer for the aquarium and Pepsi is the official soft drink.
We intend to do a lot of private functions and parties at the aquarium in the evenings, after the exhibits have closed for the day, said aquarium partner and Taft Broadcasting president Dudley Taft.
Evan Andrews, Montgomery Inn executive vice president, said the aquarium would be a wonderful venue. We can have a big tent outside to accommodate about 2,000 people, and another 2,000 inside. It will be an exciting place for parties and meetings, and nothing in this area can match it for entertainment.
The $40 million aquarium, located on Third Street next to the Taylor-Southgate Bridge, is set to open in early May. It will feature five themed areas covering 100,000 square feet, with some 11,000 fish and animals representing more than 600 species.
