Spaying and neutering services
Spaying and neutering are safe, effective ways for pet owners to control dog and cat populations. A spay is the surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries from a female animal; a neuter is the surgical removal of the testicles from a male.
Besides a visit to a veterinarian, these spay and neuter services are available:
Hamilton County SPCA, 3949 Colerain Ave., operates a spay/neuter clinic. Call for an appointment. Costs: $45 for a dog spay, $40 for a cat spay; $35 for a dog neuter; $30 for a cat neuter. Information: 541-6100 (shelter); 541-4510 (spay/neuter clinic).
The Scratching Post, a non-profit cat shelter and adoption center in Silverton, offers CatSNIP (Cat Spay-Neuter Incentive Program), which covers part of the cost of spaying or neutering, depending on financial need. 984-6369.
The League for Animal Welfare in Batavia has a low-cost spay/neuter assistance program. Discount rates available for qualified individuals, as are multiple-pet and stray-animal discounts. 752-8122.
