CINCINNATI BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP


Georgetown upsets Hillcrest by 21

        Sam Burchfield scored 13 of his 21 in the third quarter to lead Georgetown to a 77-56 upset over No. 4-seed Hillcrest in Division IV sectional basketball action at Loveland High School.

        Hillcrest is the second seeded team to fall in the Cincinnati Division IV tournament. Fayetteville knocked off No. 3 seed Summit 84-83 in overtime Tuesday night.

        Georgetown used a fast paced offense to produce easy baskets. The G-Men built a 38-22 lead by halftime and iced the game with a 25-11 third-quarter run.

        Cory Grant scored 17 for Georgetown and Jason Knott added 16. Georgetown advances to the sectional championship game Friday night against Seven Hills.

        HILLCREST (56) — Reese 6 4 16, Thompson 3 1 8, Hall 5 2 12, Jenkins 6 0 15, Steele 1 1 3, Ware 1 0 2. Totals: 22 8 56.

        • Seven Hills 59, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 36, Division IV sectional at Loveland — Matt Drane and Scott Whitehead each scored 15 first half points to lead top seed Seven Hills over CHCA for the third time this season.

        CHCA used a collapsing zone de fense to shut down Seven Hills' forward Eric Crew. The Stingers capitalized with excellent outside shooting. Drane and Whitehead consistently got good looks at the basket.

        Drane led all scorers with 21 and Whitehead finished with 16. Seven Hills advances to the sectional final for the second straight year.

        CHCA (36) — Morelock 4 0 9, Hunter 1 0 2, Price 0 2 2, Rinscheid 1 0 2, Lucas 2 1 5, Foreman 2 4 8, Welage 2 0 5, Trebes 1 1 3. Totals: 13 8 36.

        • Vandalia Butler 64, Lakota West 63 (OT), Division I sectional at U.D. Arena — Ben Neely sank a three-pointer with one second to play in the overtime to give Vandalia Butler the one-point victory.

        The game was remained tied at 53-53 for the final two minutes of regulation by Vandalia Butler. Butler's Doug Berry missed two foul shots with 2 seconds remaining in regulation.

        Dan Hutzelman led Lakota West with 16 points and Andy Dunn added 15.

        Vandalia Butler was led by Berry with a game-high 25 points. The Aviators next play Dayton Wayne Saturday at 11 a.m. at U.D. Arena for the Sectional Championship.

        • Sidney 68, Lakota East 55, Division I sectional at Wright State — Hugh Roach scored a game-high 21 points leading Sidney over Lakota East.

        Sidney took advantage of a 38-20 run in the second and third quarters to take control of the game.

        Brandon Cole added 16 points for Sidney while Lakota East was led by Graves with 10.

        SIDNEY (68) — Cole 16, Hoewischer 6, Goffena 4, Johnson 12, King 3, Roach 21, Weaver 4, Chiles 2. Totals: 26 12 68.

        LAKOTA EAST (55) — Graves 10, Smith 2, Hillen 2, Wiseman 2, Small 8, King 2, Wheat 7, Woods 9, Baker 6, Day 7. Totals: 23 7 55.

        • Woodward 81, Norwood 58, Division II sectional at Anderson — Woodward used a choking full-court press in the third quarter to spark a 26-10 run. The Bulldogs forced over 10 turnovers in the quarter which led to numerous layups.

        Brett Potter paced Woodward with 20 points while Terry Griffin and Willie Hendrix each added 15. Senior J.D. Foust scored 27 points in the losing effort. Foust scored his 1,000th point in the fourth quarter.

        Woodward advances to face top-seed McNicholas Saturday afternoon for the sectional championship.

        • McNicholas 82, Taylor 54, Division II sectional at Anderson — Ryan Ogletree scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half and Ryan Caldwell scored 16 of his 20 in the first half leading the Rockets to the Sectional Championship over Taylor.

        The Rockets pressing defense led to 52 first half points, and a 31-point halftime lead.

        Taylor was led by Dusty Getz with 13 and Jake Mullins with 11.

        MCNICHOLAS (82) — Ogletree 7 2 17, Snyder 0 2 2, Cupito 2 2 6, Schmidt 2 0 5, Brink 3 1 7, Sheehy 1 4 6, Moore 4 0 8, Fullarton 1 5 7, Brothers 1 0 2, Caldwell 9 1 20. Totals: 31 17 82.
