Road home is tough for UC, XU women

It's worth imagining, at least. The NCAA women's tournament draw that placed both Xavier and the University of Cincinnati in the Mideast Regional could land both teams back at Shoemaker Center for a regional semifinal matchup March 20.

Xavier's biggest hurdle in returning home for the regional would be Connecticut (27-4), No.1 seed in the Mideast. Xavier (23-8) would have to beat Connecticut on the Huskies' home court in Storrs, Conn.

For now, Connecticut is the favorite to be one of four teams to play in the Mideast Regional here March 20 and 22.

Connecticut, coached by Geno Auriemma, has been a No. 1 tournament seed in five of the last six years.

UC (22-8) will go to Ames, Iowa, and would have to get past No. 5 Oregon (24-5) and possibly Iowa State on its home court to return home for the regional.
