Boys districts: preview of today's games
East Clinton (17-5) vs. Madeira (21-1)
Division: III
Where: University of Dayton Arena.
When: 5:30 p.m. today
Admission: $6
Starting lineups: Madeira: Todd Schlensker, Josh Cohen, Jon Dismore, Nate Parkhouse, Jon Newberry. East Clinton: Kevin Chance, Eric Slagle, Robb Barton, Wess Boggs, Matt Miller.
What to expect: Ranked No.3 in Ohio, Madeira has an offense that averages nearly 80 points a game and a defense that has been stingy during the tournament.
Senior Todd Schlensker (20.5 ppg) is the major offensive threat along with substitute Ken Fields (17.1) and Jon Dinsmore (10.0).
The Kenton Trace Conference champions, East Clinton is led by three inside players Kevin Chance (14 points and 10 rebounds), Wes Boggs (10 and 8) and Matt Miller (10 and 9).
Astro coach Dusty Miller also has the luxury of depth with Mike Reynolds (8 points), Jason Barnes (4) and Travis Mellinger (2) contributing off the bench.
East Clinton prefers the half-court game while Madeira likes to run. If the Mustangs expect to advance, they must get an early lead and force the tempo.
Finneytown (16-6) vs. Clinton-Massie (14-8) Division: III
Where: University of Dayton Arena
When: 7 p.m. today
Admission: $6
Starting lineups: Finneytown: Phil Sweet, Jason Gardner, Bob Metroff, Lionel Calhoun, Paul Thompson. Clinton-Massie: Brett Rudduck, Justin Horst, Chad Fallis, Justin Phipps, Josh Bevan.
What to expect: This is Finneytown's first District appearance since the 1977-78 season and the run-and-gun Wildcats appear to have the talent to advance.
Jason Gardner (16.9 ppg) is one of four players in double figures along with Phil Sweet (11.4), Paul Thompson (14.1) and sub Brian Monterosso (10.2).
Clinton Massie has the size advantage and also is a balanced offensive team led by Josh Bevan (10.7 ppg) and Kole Rosselot (7.5 ppg).
