Girls regionals: Previews of today's games
Princeton (23-1) vs. Newark (21-3)
Division: I
Where: Fairgrounds Coliseum, Columbus
When: 8 p.m. today
Admission: $7
Starting lineups: Princeton: Sarah Lohmueller, Kim Lancaster, Brie Bradshaw, Teeara Dudley, Amber Sneed. Newark: Lindsay McClellan, Katie Norton, D'Wan Shackleford, Laurie Henderson, Tiffany Knight.
What to expect: Overcoming Newark's height advantage will be the toughest obstacle for the Vikings to overcome, along with containing Division I college signees D'Wan Schackelford (Ohio State) and Laurie Henderson (Central Michigan).
The Wildcats' front line consists of Lindsay McClellan (6-foot-4), Katie Norton (6-3) and Shackleford (6-1) while Henderson (5-11) runs the point.
Princeton has the speed advantage on the outside with Sarah Lohmueller and Brie Bradshaw.
We can't let them get the ball inside, Princeton coach Jerry Stein said. They shoot almost all of their shots from eight feet or in and we can't allow this to happen.
Stein knows what it takes to beat Newark.
They look more imposing on the inside than they are, Stein said. We've got to take it inside and challenge their big players to win.
If Princeton wins, the Vikings will probably play Pickerington for the regional championship Saturday for a berth in the state semifinals.
Mason (23-0) vs. Trotwood Madison (22-1)
Division: I
Where: Wright State University Nutter Center
When: 6:15 p.m. today
Admission: $7
Starting lineups: Mason: Dallas Williams, Beth Jones, Michelle Munoz, Jere' Issenmann, Ann Lippert or Racquel Ellis. Trotwood Madison: Natasha Liggens, Janae Derrick, Kristen Self, Tiffany Guthrie, Darla Finney.
What to expect: Trotwood Madison, an athletic team, prefers the up-tempo game with senior guard Guthrie the key player. The Rams also rely on point guard Liggens and Self for scoring.
Mason counters with a balanced offense Williams, Munoz and Jones average double figures and a defense that allows an average of fewer than 40 points a game.
We must get back on defense and force them into a half-court game, Mason coach Gerry Lackey said. We played Trotwood last year in the regional semifinals and were fortunate to get out to a quick lead on them.
Mason is ranked No.1 in the state and No.1 in the nation by USA Today.
Next: Winner of this game meets the winner of the Mount Notre Dame/Beavercreek game for the regional title 11a.m. Saturday.
Mount Notre Dame (21-2) vs. Beavercreek (24-0)
Division: I
Where: Wright State University Nutter Center
When: 8 p.m. today
Admission: $7
Starting lineups: Mount Notre Dame: Pam Brannen, Jen Tobertge, Jen Emming, Sarah Allen, Michelle Emming. Beavercreek: Tiffany Webb, Stefanie Miller, Amanda Williams, Shannon Gardner, Allison Skapin.
What to expect: Ranked No.3 in Ohio, Beavercreek features an offense built around Miller, a senior point guard who averages nearly nine assists and 11 points a game.
While Miller handles the outside duties, Skapin dominates on the inside along with substitute Nicole Baptiste. Garner and Webb are also scoring threats. Williams is a defensive specialist.
Mount Notre Dame is on a 17-game winning streak.
Senior guard Allen is the key player but Brannen, substitute Erin Malich, the Emming sisters, Michelle and Jen, along with point guard Tobertge, must contribute.
Beavercreek is known for its three-point shooting and a matchup zone, MND coach Chris Mack said. Our girls must remember that long shots often result in long rebounds and we'll have to box-out.
Next: Winner of this game meets the winner of the Mason/Trotwood Madison game for the regional title 11 a.m. Saturday.
Wyoming (17-6) vs. Miami East (24-0)
Division: III

Starting lineups: Wyoming: Robin Fulton, Maria McCarthy, Brook Fulton, Jenny McGee, Sara Schmitt. Miami East: Mandy Petry, Liza Worthington, Jessie Roth, Rebecca Benham, Carrie Chivington.
What to expect: A team strong inside, Miami East relies on a half-court offense, working the ball inside to Carrie Chivington, a 6-1 senior center who averages 18 points and 12 rebounds a game.
Rebecca Benham handles the point guard duties.
Wyoming has the speed and quickness advantage with the Fulton sisters, Brooke and Robin, while Jenny McGee and Sarah Schmitt control the inside.
They have virtually everyone back, Wyoming coach Deb Gentile said. They are very disciplined and like to go inside.
