'Read With Me' drive helps kids

BY CINDY KRANZ

Here's a chance to dust off gently used preschool books and donate them to needy children.

The Babies' Milk Fund (BMF) and Kenwood Towne Centre ask parents, children and the public to donate books to the “Read With Me” book drive from 12-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Books for children, ages 6 months to 6 years, will be collected at the mall's Centre Court, 7875 Montgomery Road. Children's entertainment will be featured from noon to 4 p.m., including music from “Jim and Keith,” storytelling, crafts and games.

“Read With Me” is designed to instill young children with a love of learning, language and literacy. The program encourages families to read aloud to their children, believing that reading will strengthen the caregiver-child relationship and enhance the child's development.

It is a collaborative effort of BMF health centers, local businesses, churches and volunteers, who will read to children who visit any BMF Pediatric Care Medical Center. Each child will get a book to take home. Last year, more than 2,000 books were collected during the drive.

BMF Pediatric Care is a private non-profit health care organization, which operates four health centers in medically under-served areas in Cincinnati.
