Finneytown title long time coming

        — Phil Sweet scored 18 points Wednesday to lead Finneytown to its first district title in 35 years with a 59-35 win over Clinton-Massie at UD Arena .

“I feel good for our kids,” Finneytown coach Chuck Grosser said. “We feel we can keep this going.”

Finneytown's aggressive defense and bad shooting luck combined to devastate Clinton-Massie's offense. The Falcons managed just 22 percent shooting from the field, after shooting 44 percent for the year. On the night, they missed numerous easy looks.

Said Clinton-Massie coach Brian Mudd: “This was just a nightmare where I wanted to hit the stop button and make it all go away.”

Finneytown (17-6) moves on to regionals, where it will meet the winner of Wednesday's late game between Versailles and Milton-Union.

        CLINTON-MASSIE (35) — Fallis 3 0 7, Phipps 0 3 3, Bevan 4 5 14, Horst 2 0 4, Louderback 0 2 2, Rosselot 0 1 1, Mendez 1 0 2, Cochran 1 0 2. Totals: 11-50 11-21 35.

        FINNEYTOWN (59) — Calhoun 4 1 9, Thompson 4 0 8, Meitrott 2 0 4, Sweet 8 2 18, Gardner 3 0 6, Doyle 1 0 2, Monterosso 3 4 10, Veser 1 0 2. Totals: 26-62 7-15 59.

        Clinton-Massie ....... 8   6   9  12—35

        Finneytown ....... 11  12  14  22—59

        Three-point goals: CM - Fallis, Bevan. Records: CM 14-9, F 17- 6.
