'Worlds' clash as fans write headlines

BY PHILLIP PINA
The Cincinnati Enquirer

It's Wayne's World vs. Wally World. Today's Kentucky-Miami Sweet 16 matchup stimulated the imaginations of scores of fans as they composed the headlines they hope to see on Saturday's front page.

“Wayne Rocks Wally's World! UK advances to Elite Eight,” wrote Gary Ziegelmeyer of Hebron, a lifelong UK fan.

Although Miami star Wally Szczerbiak has gotten much of the attention so far, Mr. Ziegelmeyer thinks the team play of UK and its own standout player, Wayne Turner, will dominate.

At least he hopes so. After all, he works with a group of Miami graduates at AT&T in downtown Cincinnati.

UK, the defending national champion, was expected to reach the Sweet 16, but underdog Miami crashed the party after beating two higher-seeded teams.

“Dance on, Cinderella,” wrote Gail Riehl of Hamilton. The 1984 Miami graduate is happy to see her team getting its due.

“As long as they are still playing, they have a chance,” she said. “They got this far.”
