        A look at the 18 applicants for the Lebanon city manager position.

        • Patti J. Bates: Communications specialist with Clermont County's Union Township Police Department since December 1986. Earned a master's degree in public administration from Northern Kentucky University.

        • Reid S. Charles: Consultant in planning and management services for local governments in Brighton, Mich., since October 1996.

        • Robert C. Eberhart: The borough (city) manager of Munhall, Pa., since May 1991. Fairfield's city manager from November 1989 to September 1990.

        • Robert O. Ellinger: Vice president of Nicole Energy Services in Columbus.

        • Peter J. Herlofsky Jr.: County administrator and controller of Calhoun County, Mich., since April 1993.

        • Craig H. Hubler: City manager of Excelsior Springs, Mo.

        • Cornell Hopkins: Township manager of Newtown Township in Bucks County, Pa., since 1992.

        • David W. Johnston: Village administrator for Coal City, Ill., since September 1997.

        • John M. Koelsch: A substitute teacher in Sandusky, Ohio, who has 25 years' experience in city government.

        • John J. McConn: Director of administration for the Cincinnati-based Alcoholism Council, a social service agency providing prevention, education and outpatient treatment services, from 1995 to 1998. Served as village manager in Lincoln Heights in 1994 and as township administrator in Anderson Township from 1987 to 1989.

        • James A. McFellin: Private business consultant near Houston since 1997. Has ties to Ohio, including a son and his family near Granville.

        • James E. Nelson: Assistant to the mayor in Gallatin, Tenn., since 1996.

        • James H. Patrick: City administrator and economic developer for New London, Wis., a city of 7,000 people.

        • Kurt A. Rueckel: Served as city administrator/clerk in Waukee, Iowa, from 1995 to 1998. Waukee is one of the state's fastest-growing communities.

        • Teddy C. Ryan Jr.: City manager for Riverside, Ohio, a Dayton suburb, since February 1998.

        • Ryan M. Sawmiller: A manager at the Auglaize (Ohio) County Mental Retardation/Development Disabilities board since November 1997.

        • Eric S. Stuckey: A 1989 Miami University graduate who has been assistant city manager in Elgin, Ill., since 1998. He was a management analyst in Dayton, Ohio, 1993 to 1995.

        • David M. Waltz: Executive director of the Shelby County Regional Planning Commission in Sidney, Ohio, since 1990.
