Warren's treasurer to retire; 2 seek job

BY SAUNDRA AMRHEIN
The Cincinnati Enquirer

LEBANON — A deputy treasurer and a vice chairman of the Warren County Republican Executive Committee are interested in the county treasurer's position.

Warren County Treasurer Cicero Feltner announced his retirement this week, effective April 23. He has spent almost 24 years in the treasurer's office, including six years in the top post.

Mr. Feltner, 65, said he was stepping down to spend more time with his family. He also plans to travel and play golf.

After Mr. Feltner steps down, the Warren County Republican Central Committee will appoint a replacement. A permanent successor will be elected in November 2000, said Les Spaeth, the county party chairman.

Mr. Feltner supports Jim LeFevers, his chief deputy, to replace him.

Steve Longacre, vice chairman of the county Republican Executive Committee, also has voiced interest, Mr. Spaeth said.

The treasurer is responsible for handling all county funds, including property taxes and recorder's fees.

“I just thought maybe I needed to go out and have some free time to do some things I like to do,” Mr. Feltner said of his retirement decision.

He and his wife, JoAnn, a retired teacher and principal from the Franklin school system, plan to visit a son in California and another son and a 3-year-old granddaughter in Louisiana. The two also want to fly to England and Ireland this summer.
