N.KY. HIGH SCHOOL REPORT
Lloyd freshman impressive in debut
Freshman Brett Mullins was promoted to the Lloyd varsity baseball team Tuesday, much earlier than coach Jay Mulligan had planned.
But with several of the Juggernaut pitchers off to a slow start, Mulligan decided to pitch Mullins on Thursday against Beechwood.
In five innings, Mullins limited Beechwood to three runs. He also drove in five runs, including a three-run triple in the first inning, giving Lloyd a 10-4 victory over the Tigers.
Brett isn't overpowering as a pitcher, Lloyd assistant coach Buddy Schwierjohann said. As a hitter, he makes a lot of contact.
To eliminate the jitters associated with a first appearance for the varsity, Mullins started in the outfield on Tuesday.

Notre Dame 10, Holy Cross 0 The Notre Dame single-season school record of 121 strikeouts, set by Jessica Birkenhauer last year, is already in jeopardy.
After striking out 13 in a 10-0 victory over Holy Cross on Thursday, Birkenhauer now has 42 strikeouts in 25 innings this season for the undefeated Pandas.
Over all, Birkenhauer has allowed no earned runs and thrown two shutouts.
Simon Kenton 12, Holmes 1 Freshman Lauren Wood's first starting assignment as a pitcher proved to be memorable.
Allowing only one hit, Wood, the Pioneer's No.2 pitcher struck out 10 to give Simon Kenton its fifth victory in six games this season.
Lauren is a power pitcher, coach Joan Bryson said. We're expecting her to do well.
