Lakota forums solicit opinions

Should the Lakota district have three or four junior schools? Would ninth-graders have more educational opportunities if they remained in their own building or should they move to the senior high schools?
Parents and community members can share their thoughts on three plans at two town meetings sponsored by the Lakota Advisory Commission (LAC). Each plan outlines a different configuration.
The options were presented to the Lakota Board of Education after a 10-month study by the LAC, a group of parents and West Chester-area residents who tackle research issues for Lakota board members.
The group concluded the district's buildings will be at capacity within five to six years.
Comments and recommendations from each meeting will be presented at the school board's April 26 meeting.
The plans are:
Configuration X: two high schools, freshman school, four junior schools, 11 elementary buildings and the Lakota Early Childhood Center (LECC). Under this two-phase option, a new junior school and elementary school would have to be built.
Configuration Y: two high schools, four junior schools, 11 elementary schools and the LECC. Freshmen would move to the two high schools, which would be expanded to house 2,500 students. The Freshman School would be converted to a junior school and a new elementary would be built.
Configuration Z: A third high school would be built, with freshmen moving to the senior high schools. Hopewell Junior would become an elementary school, and the Freshman School would become a junior school.
