Woman rescued from 3-alarm fire

Cincinnati firefighters rescued a woman from a three-alarm fire early Tuesday in Walnut Hills. The fire began in a third-floor apartment in the 2600 block of Gilbert Avenue. It was contained to the apartment.

Smoke detectors alerted other tenants, who were able to make it out. One resident suffered burns to her hands, and two other people had minor injuries. The damage is estimated at $50,000. The cause is under investigation.

Bond set at $75,000 in death of boy, 4
A Hamilton County Common Pleas magistrate set a $75,000 cash bond for James D. Adams.

The 38-year-old Forest Park man appeared Monday before Magistrate Judge Rick Bernat, defense attorney Raymond Faller said Tuesday.

Mr. Adams has been accused of causing the death of his 4-year-old nephew, Damon Adams, after leaving the boy locked inside his 1991 Chevrolet pickup truck while he went to work.

Arrested April 2 after being indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury, Mr. Adams remains jailed in the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Mr. Adams has been charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, kidnapping and child-endangerment.

If convicted of murder, he could face 15 years to life in prison.

Ex-husband sought in woman's shooting
OWENSVILLE — A 28-year-old Clermont County woman was in fair condition late Tuesday after police said she was shot with a shotgun by her ex-husband at a gas station on U.S. 50.

Dawn Twitt of Owensville was listed in fair condition in Clermont Mercy Hospital Tuesday night. Her ex-husband, who fled the scene in a red Mazda pickup truck, was still at large late Tuesday, the Clermont County Sheriff's Department said.

A felonious assault warrant has been issued for Aaron Twitt, 27, whose last known address was in Salinas, Calif., the sheriff's department said.

The shooting occurred at 5:30 p.m. as the victim sat in a vehicle at Friend's Ashland Gas Station. Ms. Twitt was in the vehicle with two of her children, ages 1 and 9, when the shooting occurred. No one else was injured.

Two killed in crash of pickup, tractor-trailer
JAY BIRD, Ohio — Two people were killed when a pickup truck struck a tractor-trailer on Ohio 73 near this tiny Adams County community near the Scioto County line early Tuesday, said a spokeswoman for the Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a Ford pickup truck driven by Allan Case, 43, of Otway in Scioto County was westbound on Ohio 73 when it veered into the side of the eastbound trailer of the larger truck and was struck by the trailer's wheels.

Mr. Case and a passenger in the pickup, Lottie Johnson, 54, also of Otway, were dead at the scene, troopers said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Raymond Blankenship, 53, of Huntington W. Va., was not injured. The 8:40 a.m. accident remains under investigation, troopers said.

Arby's workers forced into walk-in cooler
COLERAIN TOWNSHIP — The Arby's Restaurant in the 7900 block of Colerain Avenue was robbed by a man who ordered three employees into a walk-in freezer and then sprayed their faces with a chemical irritant, Hamilton County sheriff's deputies said.

Investigators said the robber, armed with a small back revolver and wearing a ski mask, entered the restaurant at 7:05 a.m. He ordered the manager to open the safe before telling the manger and two other employees to go into the walk-in cooler.

The robber escaped with an undetermined amount of cash. No one was seriously injured.

Mother, boy, 3, remain in hospital after explosion
DAYTON, Ky. - A 3-year-old boy and his mother remained hospitalized Tuesday after an explosion and fire in their house Monday night.

Austin Rosa was in serious condition Tuesday afternoon at Shriners Burns Institute. His mother, Lisa Reed, 27, was in fair condition at University Hospital. They were burned when gas leaked from a motorcycle in the basement of their Seventh Street house.

The gas fumes were ignited by the hot-water heater or furnace, firefighters said.

Library receives 10 World War II volumes
A set of books chronicling the efforts of U.S. soldiers in the China-Burma-India theater of operation during World World II will be presented to the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County today.

The 10 volumes, titled Confusion Beyond Recognition, by William Boyd Sinclair were a bequest to the library by the late Richard Stevenson. The books will be handed over to the library at 2 p.m. in the Noland room.

The China-Burma-India Veterans Association said the books represent a significant contribution to the public knowledge of those who fought and died for their country in the little known theater of operation.
