N.KY. HIGH SCHOOL REPORT
Coffey strikes while hot
Brandon Coffey's control on the mound he walked just one batter and his seven RBI at the plate helped give Walton-Verona a 15-4 victory at Williamstown on Wednesday.
Brandon didn't pitch a lot last year, because most of our pitchers were seniors, Walton-Verona coach Kevin McIntyre said. He's always had good control, and I knew when he got older he would pick up velocity
At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, Coffey is an imposing figure not only on the pitching mound but also as a batter.
In eight games, Coffey is now 15-for-27 (.583), with three home runs and 12 runs batted in, including a single-game career-high seven against Williamstown.
St. Henry 6, Newport 5 When the Crusaders need a hit in a crucial situation, Ryan Terrell is usually the one to come through.
Terrell lined a single to left in the seventh inning to drive in Matt Gadd with the winning run, giving pitcher Ed Bird, who struck out nine, the victory.
Boone County 18, Holy Cross 8; Boone County 7, Campbell County 2 Junior Tony Salyers had the hot bat in both games for the Rebels, going 4-for-8 with a double and a triple.
Beechwood 10, Villa Madonna 0 Sophomore Danny Hicks threw only 36 pitches in four innings for the victorious Tigers, who now own a three-game winning streak.
We wanted to save Danny for (Thursday), Beechwood coach Noel Rash said. We play both Bishop Brossart and Highlands, and that's why I lifted him.
