Puppet party pops up April 24
BY JACKIE DEMALINE
The Cincinnati Enquirer
There will be a parade of puppets, a make-a-puppet workshop, petite puppet performances and an appearance by Tanglewood Marionettes. It's all part of Cincinnati's celebration of the first-ever National Day of Puppetry on April 24.
The family-themed festivities are scheduled for Cincinnati Art Museum and Eden Park, sponsored by the 35-member Cincinnati-Area Puppetry Guild (the newest guild in the country, says Madcap Puppets' Jerry Handorf) and Cincinnati Park Board.
Tanglewood Marionettes and An Arabian Adventure start the day with performances at 1 and 2:30 p.m. at the museum, completing Madcap's subscription season.
Following the performances there will be a parade of puppets (Bring puppets to wear and share! urges Mr. Handorf) to the Seasongood Pavilion. Children and parents can learn to make puppets, kids can take part in an improvisation station and everybody can sit in on miniperformances by guild members, including Larry Smith Puppets, Kevin Frisch Marionettes and Madcap.
Arabian Adventure tickets ($5 children, $7 adults) can be purchased from the museum ticket line (721-0300). All other National Puppetry Day events are free.
For more information about the day or the guild call Aretta Baumgartner at Madcap (921-5965).
