Man, 19, killed in Price Hill

21-year-old is charged in stabbing

BY TANYA BRICKING
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Brian Pilot grew up in Price Hill and spent the last few weeks staying with friends on Rutledge Avenue.

Neighbors say the room mates often stayed up late partying in the top-floor apartment.

Early Monday, Mr. Pilot, 19, was stabbed to death.

Within hours, police arrested William “Billy” Miller, 21, of Delhi Township, on a murder charge.

It is the 11th homicide Cincinnati police have investigated so far this year — three more than at this time last year. It is the first homicide in Price Hill since October, when a 29-year-old woman was strangled.

The young man's death has left neighbors stunned, said Tonya Baker, 24, a downstairs tenant who said Mr. Pilot was quick with a smile and would sit on the porch and chat.

She had seen him hours before the stabbing when he came downstairs to take out his garbage and stopped to ask Ms. Baker if she had any cigarettes.

He went to the corner store, returned, and talked to Ms. Baker for a minute. That was the last she saw of him.

The stabbing occurred shortly after midnight. By 1:20 a.m., Mr. Pilot was pronounced dead at University Hospital.

Mr. Miller was at the apartment when police arrested him at 5:30 a.m.

He is charged with murder and is expected to be arraigned today in Hamilton County Municipal Court. A judge will set his bond and schedule a date for a grand jury to decide on indictments.
