Roommates charged in Indiana death

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. Two roommates were arrested early Monday and charged with murder in connection with the death of a 36-year-old Lawrenceburg woman the men met in a bar earlier this month.
The body of Patricia B. DeChristopher, of Concord Square, was discovered Thursday by a hiker near Upper Grants Creek about 3 miles northeast of East Enterprise, Ind., in rural Switzerland County.
An autopsy conducted by the Hamilton County Coro ner's Office determined that Ms. DeChristopher died after her throat was cut.
Early Monday, Indiana State Police (ISP) investigators arrested Ronald W. Pavey, 38, and George James Liapis, 33, of Knoll Park in Lawrenceburg.
Officials said the men met Ms. DeChristopher in a Lawrenceburg bar April 5, where they socialized through the evening into the early hours of April 6.
At some point, the three went to the Upper Grants Creek area, more than 20 miles southwest of Lawrenceburg, officials said.
It was there that Ms. DeChristopher was killed, officials said. A motive has not been determined.
Authorities had a difficult time identifying the victim because she carried no identification. A match was made using dental records, ISP Sgt. Marvin Jenkins said.
Mr. Pavey is being held in the Switzerland County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder. Mr. Liapis is being held in the Dearborn County Jail on two preliminary charges, aiding in murder and assisting in a crime, Sgt. Jenkins said.
Two dozen police officers from state, county and local agencies conducted a ground and air search Monday of a 5-acre area of Ludlow Hills Park, just outside Lawrenceburg.
ISP divers were also used to search a pond in the area.
Certain items were found, but the murder weapon was not one of them, Sgt. Jenkins said. He declined to be more specific.
He added that other searches will be conducted this week.
A relative reported Ms. DeChristopher missing the day her body was found, Sgt. Jenkins said.
