British firm coming to N.Ky., sources say

BY PATRICK CROWLEY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FORT MITCHELL — Gov. Paul Patton will come to Northern Kentucky on Wednesday to make an economic development announcement, according to the head of the region's business recruitment agency.

Danny Fore, president of the Tri-County Economic Development Corp. (Tri-ED) in Fort Mitchell, said Mr. Patton will make the announcement at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Neither Mr. Fore nor Mr. Patton's Frankfort press office would release details about the announcement.

But Northern Kentucky development and government sources said Mr. Patton will announce that a British manufacturing firm will build a $54 million plant in Walton that will employ up to 135.

The sources would not name the company but said part of the reason the company is coming to Northern Kentucky is the air service offered.

Delta Air Lines, which operates a hub at the airport, flies nonstop service between here and London.

The involvement of Mr. Patton and Tri-ED indicates that financial incentives, often in the form of tax breaks, have been given to the company.

The company will build its plant in an industrial area in the south end of Walton along the Boone and Kenton county line, the sources said.

Walton Mayor Phil Trzop was out of town and could not be reached for comment.
