Alley may be named for dance teacher

Covington thinks over wife's idea

BY JANE PRENDERGAST
The Cincinnati Enquirer

COVINGTON — To park at the Ziegler Studio of Dance, hang a left on Russell Street, go right at the liquor store and head down the alley. The nameless alley.

For years, that's the way students have been directed to the school. But now, as Ziegler marks a half-century in business, the instructions might include a pirouette down Ziegler Alley.

In honor of Bob Ziegler's 50 years of teaching people to trip the light fantastic, his wife, Nancy, thought of an idea — maybe the city would name the alley for the school. Mr. Ziegler had said for years that the strip needed a name, but he never got around to asking.

“I just thought it'd be nice,” she said. “It's kind of a fun thing.”

City commissioners are discussing possible names. They decided this week to ask the Zieglers for their suggestions.

Swan Lake Way? Boogie- Woogie Street?

“Anything will be fine,” Mrs. Ziegler said. “It's just the idea of it.”

The whole thing was originally supposed to be a surprise for her husband. She was going to try to hold the secret until the June recital. But with the commission talking about it, she figured she'd never be able to keep it quiet until then.

“He's been talking about it forever,” she said. “I just hope he likes what they come up with.”
