Teen charged in Colerain school fire

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP A 14-year-old Colerain boy was charged with arson in connection with an April 5 fire at Pleasant Run Middle School, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department said Monday.
He was a student at the school, said Lt. Hollis Love, an investigator with the Colerain Township Fire Department.
The boy, who is not being named by The Cincinnati Enquirer because he is a juvenile, is being held at the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center. He faces one count of arson.
The investigation is continuing, and additional arrests are possible, the sheriff's department said.
Damage was initially estimated at $5,000, but Lt. Love said the final figure might be lower. Gasoline is thought to have been used as an accelerant.
The fire was discovered shortly after 12:30 a.m. by a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy who was investigating a burglar alarm.
The alarm apparently was activated by smoke, which filled the building, tripping a motion detector and sending a silent alarm to police.
A temporary wall that separated the existing structure from an addition under construction was on fire when the deputy arrived. The wall was made of plywood.
