N.KY. HIGH SCHOOL REPORT

Read double carries Rebels

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Brenna Read has started for the Boone County softball team the past five years, and the junior shortstop now has taken over leadership of the Rebels.

It was Read's double with two on in the third inning that set the stage for Boone County's 4-1 upset victory over Si mon Kenton on Wednesday at Kenton Lakes.

“The difference this season is confidence,” Boone County coach Patti Oliverio said. “Last year Brenna batted about .280, but she's over .400 and leads the team in RBI with 18.”

Pitcher Heather Lawrence also played an important role, scattering four hits and enabling the Rebels to hand the Cougars only their second loss in 11 games.

Baseball
        • Walton Verona 9, Villa Madonna 2 — Sophomore Bradley Stephenson struck out a career-high 14 and gave up three hits, giving the Bearcats their 10th victory.

Another sophomore, Robbie Huellenmeyer, came through with the bat, driving in three of the four runs with a double and a triple.
