Police find 26 guns in car; 5 arrested

Possible goal: Trading for crack

BY TANYA BRICKING
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Cincinnati police found 26 guns early Friday after stopping the driver of a blue 1988 Chevy Corsica for a minor traffic violation.

Police believe the people in the car came to Over-the-Rhine to trade guns for crack, police spokesman Lt. Roger Wolf said.

Police stopped the car on the 1700 block of Vine Street about 2 a.m. for an improper lane change. An investigation led to the arrest of five people:

        • A 16-year-old Salt Lick, Ky., boy faces a charge of improperly furnishing firearms to a minor for allegedly selling a handgun to another teen.

        • Mary Beth O'Hair, 18, of Salt Lick, Ky., is charged with improper transportation of a firearm and carrying concealed weapons.

        • Jerome Stanford, 34, of Mount Auburn, is charged with having weapons while under disability of another offense, drug abuse, disorderly conduct and falsification.

        • Earl Stephens, 21, of Salt Lick, Ky., is charged with having weapons while under disability of another offense and carrying concealed weapons.

        • Bobby Wells, 27, of Flemingsburg, Ky., is charged with having weapons while under disability of another offense and carrying concealed weapons.

The adults are being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center. The 16-year-old is in juvenile detention.
