Bond doubled for DUI offender
$100,000 set for man with 13 prior arrests
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A Hamilton County judge doubled the bond Monday for an accused drunken driver who has at least 13 prior DUI arrests.
Gregory Roy, 43, of Cincinnati now will be held in jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. Prosecutor Mike Allen said he requested the increase because Mr. Roy is a repeat offender with a history of skipping his court dates.
There's no doubt Mr. Roy poses a significant threat to the public, Mr. Allen said.
Common Pleas Judge Ann Marie Tracey granted the request and said Mr. Roy also would be held in jail for violating terms of his probation from a previous offense.
In those cases, the judge had sentenced Mr. Roy to 120 days in jail and also ordered him to serve his 16 months of probation in jail.
But she said the jail released him after 120 days, at which time Mr. Roy ended his contact with his probation officer.
The latest charges against Mr. Roy prompted Mr. Allen to single him out two weeks ago as proof that Ohio needs tougher DUI laws. He has since proposed a new law, which will be discussed later this week at a hearing in the Ohio legislature.
