Cincinnati Boychoir sings to buy fire doors

BY WALT SCHAEFER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

NORWOOD — A “doors” concert will be held this week to benefit the Cincinnati Boychoir, which moved into a 100-year-old building here last year.

The choir needs money for new fire doors.

The 35-year-old group of about 100 boys — ages 8-14 — bought its first permanent headquarters in the former Norwood Open Bible Church in August but now faces some unexpected expenses after building inspectors ordered the building be brought up to fire code.

That means buying six new fire doors and fireproofing the stairwells in the three-story building at Mills and Allison avenues.

Concerts and an auction to raise the $10,000 cost of the doors will be held Friday and Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington.

“The organization has planned a silent auction in connection with its annual spring concert — "A Celebration of World Music',” said group spokeswoman Debra Allison. “The auction will feature a variety of goods and services — gift items, tickets, entertainment packages.”
