DELHI TOWNSHIP The newly renovated Delhi Hills Branch Library will reopen to the public May 15, with a rededication ceremony.
Library officials say the renovation and expansion was done to accommodate demand for one of the busiest branch libraries in the system of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, which has 35 neighborhood and six regional branches.
The $1.7 million project began in August. (The library has been closed since Feb.12.)
That branch has always been in a community that has made heavy use of the library, said Amy Banister, a spokeswoman for the Public Library. There has been a dramatic expansion of computers and the children's area.
The expansion has added parking to the branch from 28 to 63 spaces as well as increase the floor space by almost 5,000 square feet, from 10,350 to 15,150 square feet.
Book capacity has increased, from 76,000 volumes to more than 90,000 books and other materials. New CINCH computers will increase from two to eight, and Internet computers from three to eight.
It's been totally transformed, said branch manager Susan Hamrick, who added that some staff have been working at the Westwood annex since the library closed for the renovation.
The branch library has four librarians, three public service assistants and four part-time public service assistants. The branch circulated 376,802 items in 1997.
Part of the expansion was made possible when a 1-acre piece of property next to the branch was purchased in March 1997. The library opened in January 1968.
