        • Crime pays for Edgar winners: Run out and pick up a copy of 1998's best mystery novel, Mr. White's Confession by Robert Clark. Who says it's so great? The Mystery Writers of America, that's who. They gave it an Edgar last week at the 54th annual Edgar Allan Poe awards. P.D. James was added to MWA's “grand master” list and Wendelin Van Draanen won the children's book Edgar for Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief.

Staying in
        • Critic's picks: After a bad fall, Frasier is back on the beam, trying to balance two girlfriends, guests stars Amy Brenneman and Virginia Madsen today (9 p.m., Channels 5, 22). And TV Critic John Kiesewetter may skip ER's power outage for 48 Hours' report on why three teens confessed to a murder they did not commit (10 p.m., Channels 12, 7).

        • Did we hear "ER'? If you want to celebrate Tristate boy George Clooney's 38th birthday tonight, go on and tune into ER, which could use some resuscitation from the much-missed Dr. Ross. Imagine what the maverick doc would do during tonight's hospital blackout.

        • Web site of the day: Cybernet mamas will get a kick out of free greeting cards sent from www.bluemountainarts.com They're animated and set to music. Dr. Stephen Schultz and his wife, poet Susan Polis Schultz, operate Blue Mountain Arts in Boulder, Colo.They've designed 55 different ways to say “Happy Mother's Day” and offered them for free.

        • Pamper mom: Why give your mom one gift on Mother's Day when you can give her 60? Dear Mommy Coupons (Sourcebooks; $5.95) is a book full of 60 coupons that will make mom happy.
