Bill gives teens boost in summer job hunt
The Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio Teen-agers looking for summer work will find it easier to do so under a bill headed for Gov. Bob Taft's desk.
The House on Thursday agreed with Senate amendments to a bill that would exempt employees ages 16 and 17 from having to provide birth certificates and written permission from school to get jobs at theme parks and other seasonal venues.
Sponsoring Rep. George Terwilleger, R-Maineville, said his bill would allow teen-agers to compete with older workers who aren't restricted during the school year.
The Senate adopted an amendment by Sen. Dan Brady, D-Cleveland, that would restrict the hours those teens could work during the school year to Friday evenings through Sunday nights.
The bill now goes to Mr. Taft for his signature.
