Police dog helps with drug collars
BY MARIE McCAIN
The Cincinnati Enquirer
LINCOLN HEIGHTS It's been a busy five months for Lincoln Heights' newest police recruit Ero, a 2-year-old German shepherd.
Within a short amount of time he has become a good deterrent (to drug crime). People know we now have our own drug dog. ... He is distinctive, Police Chief Ernie McCowen said Thursday.
Besides taking part in a January drug sweep that netted more than two dozen suspects in Lincoln Heights and nearby Lockland, he has helped search for tornado survivors and has helped arrest 18 drug suspects.
Patrol Officer Joseph Euton is Ero's handler and has taken numerous training courses.
Trained to identify several illicit narcotics including cocaine, heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana, Ero also serves as a tracking dog and can search a field to locate a missing person or evidence in a crime.
Ero has given officers prob able cause to search cars for narcotics during traffic stops.
He's done a great job, added Patrol Officer Scott Miller. He puts fear in the drug boys on the street. They know any time he's on they have to watch it.
