BY LUCY MAY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Sammy Sosa, singer Peter Frampton and a bunch of flying pigs can't be wrong.

  • Where: Cinergy Field
  • Tickets: Plenty still available.

They're all taking part in a range of activities that make up the region's first big weekend celebrating the return of warm weather.

“Who says there's nothing going on in Cincinnati? You can't say that,” said Raymond “Buz” Buse, public relations manager for the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce.

“There's plenty going on in Cincinnati. It kicks into gear this weekend and goes all summer long.”

Anyone with an inkling to hang out with thousands of people has plenty of options this weekend, ranging from clogging and crafts at the Appalachian Festival to home runs and hotdogs at the Reds' series with Sammy Sosa and the Chicago Cubs.

Organizers expect those events plus the Pepsi Jammin' on Main music festival and the first Flying Pig Marathon to draw a combined 190,000 visitors.

Or there's the Michelle Padilla option. The Hyde Park woman didn't hesitate when asked if she planned to take part in the festivities.

“No,” she said, taking a break from her reading on Fountain Square Friday. “Lounging around at home. That's my weekend — relaxation.”
